Here is part 2 of my favorite locations for a session in Richmond, VA
Again, all of these locations do not have any cost to have a session there (other than parking in the parking garages). I am grateful that Richmond is so versatile and offers all four seasons that give clients exactly what they are looking for any time of year.
Libby Hill Park is a favorite location due to the view of the city. If you are a Richmond native and love the city, you will eventually want a session here. There are cobblestone roads, grassy areas, and the Ginkgo trees are stunning in the fall if you time it just right. My only gripe is that it is usually busy, especially on the weekends! Oh, and it's only street parking so brush up on those parallel parking skills. If you do choose this location for a session, consider picking an awesome restaurant to eat at afterwards! I can certainly give a few of my favorite options.
Midlothian Mines Park is a great location if you live south of the river. It has open grassy areas, a big pond, walkways, bridge, etc. Its a great nature-y area! Though it does come with it's competition for a good spot in the fall due to other photographers being there and be mindful of when homecoming and prom are because that adds a whole other factor to the real estate for photos there! But in the fall, it's beautiful especially with the changing leaves across the pond.
Appamattox Manor/ Old City Point Waterfront Park in Hopewell is truly so pretty. It offers many different settings for your session. I usually start at Appamattox Manor where there are views of the river, grassy areas, some trees/hedges. Then drive down the street to Old City Point where you can have the rest of the session on the water with a small beachy area. Parking is easy to find and it's great for little ones who like to run around since there is so much space!
Parking Garages, well some of them! In Richmond, my 2 favorite are the ones on 14th and Cary, and 9th and Cary (Truist Place). One will give you a beautiful sunset and views of the Main Street Station clock off of the highway, the other has city buildings which add visual interest to you session. Both garages cost to park, only a few dollars but totally worth it!
Rural Plains Park is another "hidden" gem in Hanover County. The sun sets so beautifully over the field and tree line. There are some trees that help provide shade if you go earlier and there are some that look beautiful in the fall. It's definitely a great spot and tends to be quieter.
